President Jokowi Reviewing Light Wood Innovation at the Trade Expo Indonesia 2018

International scale trade show, Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2018, in the Indonesia Convention Exhibition Bumi Serpong Damai (ICE BSD), Tangerang, Banten, was officially opened by President Joko Widodo on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.

The 33rd TEI exhibition featured 300 products and services, ranging from culinary, craft, furniture, creative industry products, to strategic industries.

President Jokowi visited one of the platforms that was quite unique, namely a lightweight wooden platform. In addition to the honeycomb-shaped design, the platform also features houses made of Indonesian light wood.

Setyo Wisnu Broto, a light wood businessman, had the opportunity to talk with the President. From the small talk, the man who is also the Secretary General of Indonesia Light Wood Association (ILWA) revealed that President Jokowi had asked why Indonesian light wood had only been made into commodities so far, the prices in the market were always swaying.

“Then he hopes that there will be new innovations that will be different, provide a much higher added value, and thank God, we from ILWA began to make one big change and we made major changes in the form of innovation in end products from light wood,” he said.

One of the light wood end products that the President is interested in is home. In addition to termites, Setyo said, this house was also designed to withstand earthquakes. “If it has been treated it can last 10 years,” he continued.

To Setyo, the President also suggested that this wooden house be made in tourist areas. This can make the growth of tourism areas in Indonesia become much faster. “Because building a 5-star resort with light wood and then cheap it will greatly accelerate the investment process,” Setyo said. (bas)
