Government Seeks Ways to Boost Indonesian Fisheries Exports

Today the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs held a meeting to increase exports in the fisheries sector. The meeting was attended by relevant ministry officials and took place in a closed manner.

Director General (Director General) of Strengthening Maritime and Fishery Product Competitiveness Rifky Effendi Hardijanto said that the meeting discussed was to increase the value of Indonesian fisheries exports.

“We want to accelerate Indonesian exports. Hopefully we can contribute to efforts to boost Indonesia’s export value of fishery products. We discussed everything that has failed to rise and what needs to be supported so that short-term fisheries export can increase,” he explained in Jakarta. Tuesday (1/16/2019).

He said, currently there is no target for the expected increase in exports, because the increase in exports cannot be done in a short time.

But the government, said Rifky, will focus on adding points of location for the export of fishery products. Hopefully, it can bring the source of fisheries production closer to the delivery location. So that the volume and value of exports can increase.

“The first is short term, how do we encourage new export points in East Indonesia, for example Makassar first. Makassar, yesterday, was the first export from Perinus and Pelindo IV,” he explained.

In addition to adding export shipping points, the government will also reform the logistics sector. One of them is to increase the variety of modes of transportation of shipping fishery products to export destination countries.

Another way is by cooperating with Garuda Indonesia airline to provide a special cargo ship carrying fish.

“Yesterday we met with Garuda’s logistics director to discuss cargo aircraft. Garuda will prepare a freighter specifically for fisheries,” he concluded. (dna/dna)
